Local artist's passion blossoms into city's first film festival

Seventeen years ago, Naperville resident Edmond Coisson took the role that brought him to filmmaking, a career that would lead to co-founding the upcoming Naperville Independent Film Festival: a sleazy maitre d'.

In 1991, Coisson took a job with a director for a local access channel. A read-through with another cast member revealed a sub-par script, Coisson said. "The English was not quite proper, the lines were nothing worth jiving," Coisson said. <more>

It’s Showtime!

Say the words “film festival” and we may soon add “Naperville” to our associative list of Sundance and Cannes. The Naperville Independent Film Festival, scheduled to debut on September 24-27, is certain to be a lot of fun (think black tie and red carpet). But for independent filmmakers, it promises to be a lot more.

Thanks to the passion and vision of its filmmaking cofounders, Gary Pradel and Edmond and Glessna Coisson, the Naperville Independent Film Festival will not only provide a cultural treat rarely experienced by most Americans, but also a particularly unique feature seldom experienced by most amateur filmmakers - constructive feedback. <more>

Web site where interested residents can find opportunities to
volunteer, sponsor, fund raise, submit films, attend the festival

Helping filmmakers improve their work is a main mission of Naperville’s first 2008 film festival

A group of independent filmmakers from Naperville will host the city’s first annual Independent Film Festival September of 2008—but with a big, helpful difference from other festivals.

“The main mission is to bring filmmakers from around the world together,” says festival co-founder Edmond Coisson. “The second goal is to help filmmakers improve their films.” <More >
